Matthew 1:22-25 (NLT)
22 All of this happened to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet:
23 “Look! The virgin will conceive a child!
She will give birth to a son,
and he will be called Immanuel [2]
(meaning, God is with us).”
24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord commanded. He brought Mary home to be his wife, 25 but she remained a virgin until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus.
[1]
Jesus means “The Lord saves”.
[2]
Isaiah 7:14; 8:8, 10.
DRAWING NOTES:
TIME OF DAY:
Unspecified in Bible narrative, I have set this scene in the daytime.
LIGHTING NOTES:
Houses in biblical times had small, narrow windows, often set high up in a wall, which allowed some sunlight in, but prevented burglars from entering the house! Diffused daylight from these high windows lights this scene, casting shadows below the figure & objects.
CHARACTERS PRESENT:
Isaiah, son of Amoz, the prophet (See Bible book Isaiah 1:1).
RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
This picture shows Isaiah, son of Amoz, praising God in his house. He is receiving the prophetic word from the Lord God, regarding the miraculous virgin birth (see verse 23 above). In SET 01 I focussed on the marriage of Joseph to Mary, but in SET 02 I have decided to focus on the prophecy regarding the virgin birth instead.
Here is the scene without the figure or table & chair.

Background of Matthew 01 – The Nativity SET 02 – Scene 03 – Isaiah predicts the virgin birth
I decided to draw Isaiah, to focus on the prophecy he recorded regarding the maiden & virgin birth, Isaiah prophesied 700 years before Christ’s ministry, death and resurrection. Observant viewers will see that I have used the first scene in SET 02 (Matthew 01 – The Nativity SET 02 – Scene 01 – Mary’s miraculous pregnancy) as the focal point of Isaiah’s prophecy.
Very observant viewers will make out two brown mice peering out at Isaiah, one from the wall & one under the door!
In my picture we see Isaiah with arms raised in worship of God, standing next to a writing desk & chair, complete with parchment, pen & ink pot.
