DRAWING NOTES:
TIME OF DAY:
Later in the day, late afternoon.
LIGHTING NOTES:
The sun (unseen, low in the sky) illuminates this scene & is entering the room via the window, casting shadows to the left of the figures.
CHARACTERS PRESENT:
From left to right: Simon/Peter, John (son of Zebedee & brother of James), doctor Luke, James/Cleopas (son of Alphaeus).
RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
This scene uses the same background as Acts 01 – Matthias replaces Judas – Scene 01 – Simon/Peter speaks, since it is set in the same place.
This is a simple scene, showing Simon/Peter beginning to speak to the other disciples & believers in an upper room where they all met together.
Out of the window we can see a view across the city of Jerusalem. Typically Hebrew architecture included narrow windows, which allowed ventilation, but kept out intruders. I don’t think large, open windows were a feature employed. However, I wanted to give a view over the city of Jerusalem, so I have included a large open window in this picture.
James has his hands raised in praise of God & doctor Luke is telling the other disciples of their encounter with the resurrected Jesus in Emmaus. We can only see 2 of the eleven disciples in this scene, the others are nearby, but out of view.
Here is the scene without the figures in the foreground.
