Luke 24:28-30 (NLT)
28 By this time they [the 2 disciples & Jesus] were nearing Emmaus and the end of their journey. Jesus acted as if he were going on, 29 but they begged him, “Stay the night with us, since it is getting late.” So he went home with them. 30 As they sat down to eat, [1] he took the bread and blessed it. Then he broke it and gave it to them.

Or, As they reclined.
DRAWING NOTES:
TIME OF DAY:
Evening.
LIGHTING NOTES:
This scene is inside a house, there is general lighting coming from behind & to the right of the viewer, casting shadows behind & to the left of the figures & objects.
CHARACTERS PRESENT:
From right to left: James/Cleopas (son of Alphaeus), Doctor Luke (a gentile), the resurrected Jesus.
RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
This scene was specially commissioned; the customer wanted me to show the characters “hearts burning within us” from verse 32. I have made two versions of this scene, one with & one without that “heart burning” visual effect.
There are two versions of this scene:
01) (Previous page) Luke 24 – Walk to Emmaus – Scene 02 – Breaking bread (Version 01). This version does not have the “heart burning” effect on James & Doctor Luke.
02) (This page) Luke 24 – Walk to Emmaus – Scene 02 – Breaking bread (Version 02). This version shows the “heart glow” of James & Doctor Luke.
This is a simple scene, showing the three figures reclining on cushions at a low table. Jesus is blessing & breaking the bread, just before he disappears.
