Isaiah 40:31
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
DRAWING NOTES:
TIME OF DAY:
Unspecified in Bible text.
LIGHTING NOTES:
Being a more abstract-like picture, the light source is less important to note than in my other Bible Cartoons, which are more realistic in nature. Nevertheless, the light illuminating the eagle is coming from the left, casting shadows to the right.
CHARACTERS PRESENT:
Bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus).
RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Please note: Because this design has quite small text on it, I would recommend that you purchase the High Quality version, rather than the Medium Quality version, in order to be able to read the lettering.
There are four versions of this scene. The first two feature a fiery eagle, in the last two the eagle has more natural, brown colouring, gradually becoming fiery at the wing tips:
Fiery Eagle
01) (This page) Isaiah 40 – Fiery Eagle (Version 01 – Crystallized backgnd with text).
In this version the eagle has my usual, characteristic black keyline (outline) around it.
Notice the background has had an effect added to it, which crystallizes the colours, unlike version 03 & 04, where the colours have a smooth, flowing nature.
This version also has the Isaiah 40:31 text on the right hand side of the picture.
02) (Next page) Isaiah 40 – Fiery Eagle (Version 02 – Crystallized backgnd without text)
In this version I have removed my usual, characteristic black keyline (outline) from the eagle.
This second version of the fiery eagle has the same crystallized background as the first version, but I have removed the Isaiah 40:31 text from the picture.
Brown Eagle
03) (Next page) Isaiah 40 – Brown Eagle (Version 03 – Smooth backgnd with text)
In this version I have removed my usual, characteristic black keyline (outline) from the eagle.
This version has smooth background colours – the crystallization effect has been removed.
This version has the Isaiah 40:31 text on the right.
03) (Next page) Isaiah 40 – Brown Eagle (Version 04 – Smooth backgnd without text
In this version I have removed my usual, characteristic black keyline (outline) from the eagle.
This version has smooth background colours – the crystallization effect has been removed.
I have removed the Isaiah 40:31 text from this picture.
I created this scene for my wife. It only took a few hours to complete version 01, which is pretty fast for me! She decided she would like the eagle to look browner; more like the bald eagle in real life, which the eagle is based on. So version 04 & 04 were created with that in mind.
I normally have a black keyline (outline) around the figures and objects in my scenes. Only the first version of the 4 scenes has that characteristic outline feature. And, in fact, I only added it after I’d finished the picture, whereas I normally draw the keyline first, scan it in on my computer and then colour up a scene.
Here are several other Bible translations of the verse, which give a slightly different emphasis to the meaning…
Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (MSG)
31 But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, They run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind.
Isaiah 40:31 (AMP)
31 But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.
Isaiah 40:31 (NLT)
31 But those who wait on the LORD will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:30-31 (ESV)
30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;
31 but [1] they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings [2] like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
