Bible Reference & Cartoon Description

Genesis 41:3-4 (NLT)
3 Then he [Pharaoh] saw seven more cows come up behind them from the Nile, but these were scrawny and thin. These cows stood beside the fat cows on the riverbank. 4 Then the scrawny, thin cows ate the seven healthy, fat cows! At this point in the dream, Pharaoh woke up.

DRAWING NOTES:

TIME OF DAY:
Night.

LIGHTING NOTES:
This scene occurs in Pharaoh’s bedroom, it would have been very dark, but I have used light from above to illuminate this scene.

CHARACTERS PRESENT:
Pharaoh, the king of Egypt at the time of Joseph.

RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
This is my interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream of 7 scrawny and thin cows. I have illustrated a “thought bubble” to represent the scene Pharaoh is dreaming about. The 7 famine-stricken cows are eating the 7 healthy cows. As in the previous scene I thought I would include Pharaoh himself in his dream, standing on the river bank, admiring the healthy cows, as that shows us his emotional viewpoint during the dream.

Bible Doctrine Notes
41:1-32 GOD, EVIL AND SUFFERING, Providence (2.33B)

God can use what we humans consider a disaster to achieve His divine purposes. In the example of Genesis chp 41, God provided a way for people to survive the 7 year long famine which also included elevating Joseph from prisoner to 2nd in command of the nation of Egypt. What may appear to be evil in the short term may turn out to be God’s leadership for the good of many people in the long term. See notes on Gen 45:4-11, 50:20.
