Bible Reference & Cartoon Description

Genesis 41:1-2 (NLT)
Pharaoh’s Dreams
1 Two full years later, Pharaoh dreamed that he was standing on the bank of the Nile River. 2 In his dream he saw seven fat, healthy cows come up out of the river and begin grazing in the marsh grass.

DRAWING NOTES:

TIME OF DAY:
Night.

LIGHTING NOTES:
This scene occurs in Pharaoh’s bedroom, it would have been very dark, but I have used light from above to illuminate this scene.

CHARACTERS PRESENT:
Pharaoh, the king of Egypt at the time of Joseph.

RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
This is my interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream of 7 fat, healthy cows. I have illustrated a “thought bubble” to represent the scene Pharaoh is dreaming about. The 7 cows are coming ashore from the Nile river, eating the marsh grass. I thought I would include Pharaoh himself in his dream, standing on the river bank, admiring the healthy cows, as that shows us his emotional viewpoint during the dream.

Bible Doctrine Notes
41:1-32 GOD, EVIL AND SUFFERING, Providence (2.33B)

God can use what we humans consider a disaster to achieve His divine purposes. In the example of Genesis chp 41, God provided a way for people to survive the 7 year long famine which also included elevating Joseph from prisoner to 2nd in command of the nation of Egypt. What may appear to be evil in the short term may turn out to be God’s leadership for the good of many people in the long term. See notes on Gen 45:4-11, 50:20.
