Genesis 40:1-4 (NLT)
Joseph Interprets Two Dreams
1 Some time later, Pharaoh’s chief cup-bearer and chief baker offended their royal master. 2 Pharaoh became angry with these two officials, 3 and he put them in the prison where Joseph was, in the palace of the captain of the guard. 4 They remained in prison for quite some time, and the captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, who looked after them.
DRAWING NOTES:
TIME OF DAY:
Unspecified I the Bible text. I have set this scene in the afternoon.
LIGHTING NOTES:
The sun (high in the sky) illuminates this scene, casting vague shadows below & to the left of figures & objects.
CHARACTERS PRESENT:
The chief cup-bearer is the man on the left in a mustard yellow inner robe, the chief baker is the man on the right in a purple inner robe. The Egyptian guards are the other men in green robes.
RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
This picture shows Pharaoh’s chief cup-bearer and chief baker having been taken to the Egyptian prison that Joseph is held in. The scene shows the guards removing these men’s outer robes (associated with their high position in Pharaoh’s royal household) & being given the rough brown robes of prisoners instead.
Notice the current bun on the floor below the baker, & the white flour on his purple outer robe!
Here’s the scene without the figures in the foreground.
