I’ve just drawn Jonah, Scene 12, where Jonah is sitting beneath a broad leaf plant, waiting to see what will happen to Nineveh. Now I’m drawing scene 11, where Jonah is angry with the Lord! I don’t always draw, colour & finish cartoons in order; it depends what inspires me!

Bible Cartoon: Jonah 01 – Scene 01 – The Lord’s command
I’ve uploaded the greyscale cartoon I drew for Jonah 01 – Scene 01 – Lords command & attached it here. This was the first time I have used this interim method of “colouring” using only shades of grey. Previously I have gone straight into producing the full colour finished version, straight from the outline drawing. Producing the interim tonal (greyscale) version of the cartoon helps me to create a strong design, based purely on tone, without having to think about colour at the same time. Once I am happy with the greyscale version I produce the finished, full-colour version. Not only does this process enable me to create stronger cartoons, I am finding it helps me to be more daring in my use of colour, tone & lighting effects.
