Drawing new scenes for Daniel in the lions’ den story

I’m working on a series of Bible Cartoons that will depict the story of Daniel in the lions’ den. Although I’ve drawn Daniel being lowered into the den before (in December 2009) it is time to draw the rest of the story, which will include some interior scenes of a throne room and audience chamber in king Darius’s Persian palace, some exterior scenes of the lions’ den and other settings. I’m researching Persian architecture, clothing, hairstyles, etc, so that these scenes look very different from my more usual scenes, which are often set in ancient Israel.

I’ll update this post as I draw the scenes in pen and ink, and then again when they are coloured up.
